It's certainly true that God has a plan for our lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says "I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." While this passage was originally directed toward a group of exiles, I believe it applies to pretty much anyone in the right context.
